Here is a screen shot showing a layout using several fonts:
As you can see there are several different fonts on the screen at once. These are all fonts installed on your computer. There are THOUSANDS of FREE FONTS you can get from the internet and use them on your Cricut Expression and other Cricut machines.
Not only that but you can use professional style programs like Adobe Illustrator or any program that will save a file as an SVG file type to make your own images. You can even use several free programs like Inkscape or OpenOffice Draw. Not all of them are easy to use though. I recommend Illustrator if you can get it. Inkscape and OpenOffice are free. This would allow you to use lots of online SVG images. A very good place to find lots of public domain SVG files is at Open Clip Art. All of the stuff listed there is free to use. Here is what one Cricuteer said about the software -
There is downloadable software called “Sure Cuts a Lot” that works with the Cricut machines. You can download it here :
it costs about the same as one Cricut cartridge. This software allows you to use any true type font on your computer. There are thousands of free true type fonts available online.
I happen to be a graphic designer and I work with a program by Adobe called “Illustrator”. After I had gotten this software, to my surprise, I found out that I can create a design in Illustrator and then save it as a file called SVG (Scalable vector graphic) The “Sure Cuts a Lot” software is able to open the SVG file and I can cut any design that I create! You will need to have the updated firmware from the cricut design studio for the software to work, but fortunately, you can download a free trial version on the Cricut website and that’s all you will need to make the “Sure Cuts a Lot” program work.
No more buying cartridges!
The Cricut DesignStudio software does alot of similar things but – The one catch is you have to have the specifc Cricut Cartridge on hand and plug it into the machine to get it to cut all the fonts. The design studio will let you see all the pics and fonts available but you cant cut out the ones you do not have. Not an inexpensive solution!
For the money and the flexibility it is a no brainer to get the Sure Cuts Alot software and download as many truetype fonts as you want. There are some really cool fonts out there too. Go Cricuteer!
